Historic one-bedroom rustic "haunted" cottage located just four blocks from River Street
Excellent placement between Columbia Square and Greene Square in the historic district, this charming cottage dates to the late 18th Century. Original heart pine boards comprise floors, walls, and ceilings. The cottage is filled with antiques and original artwork. Accommodations include a fully equipped kitchen, cozy master bedroom, queen size sleeper sofa (sleeps up to four guests), and washer & dryer. The downstairs living room is complete with a fireplace. A perfect extended stay cottage for a couple.
The exquisite heart pine boards come from trees which were probably 200 years old when General Oglethorpe landed in Savannah in 1733. Exposed post and beam construction reveal period construction methods. Some have speculated that this cottage is the house in which Isaiah Davenport lived as he was building his grand brick mansion on the corner of State and Habersham Streets. His nearby residence, The Davenport House, was the first house restored by the Historic Savannah Society, and is a beautiful Federal House Museum today.
Off street parking is directly behind the cottage, and in front is a lovely shaded garden. Not only is this historic cottage within walking distance to fine museums, restaurants, theatres, and the river, it is also part of some of the walking ghost tours that are popular in the district. Tour directors describe the alleged friendly ghost that may even reveal it’s presence during your stay at Laura’s cottage as they walk by this wonderfully restored and updated example of a circa late 1700’s structure that early settlers resided in.
